A thriving manufacturing industry needs a workforce equipped with the skills and expertise to innovate and adapt to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving global market.

To ensure the sustainability and competitiveness of our manufacturing sector, investing in vocational education and training is paramount. By nurturing a skilled workforce through vocational education and training, we not only secure the present, but also pave a way for a prosperous and resilient manufacturing sector in the future.

The Manufacturing Industry Skills Alliance (Manufacturing Alliance) is the Jobs and Skills Council for the manufacturing industry.听We drive manufacturing excellence through skills development. Partnering with industry, government and educators, we shape a skilled workforce for the future. As the Jobs and Skills Council for manufacturing, we set national training standards to ensure Australia鈥檚 manufacturing industry thrives in a tech-based world.

Collaboration and engagement

Our goal is to help the manufacturing industry develop a flexible and adaptable workforce where workers have the skills needed to grasp the opportunities provided by new technology and techniques.

While there is no quick solution, the first step is to understand, from those on the ground, the workforce challenges faced by industry and the gaps that exist in matching qualifications and training to job roles. Engaging with industry stakeholders, including training providers and all learners from apprentice/trainee level to seasoned workers looking to upskill or reskill, is essential in understanding their experiences and priorities within an everchanging landscape.

These insights will help the Manufacturing Alliance to:

• understand the needs and challenges facing employers, workers and learners and provide governments and business leaders with a strong industry voice on what is needed.
• develop a Workforce Plan that can address workforce challenges through actionable strategies and solutions that empower manufacturing businesses to optimise operations, enhance efficiency, and achieve sustainable growth.
• work with training providers to improve delivery and develop training product solutions.
